Ma backs poll to decide Taiwan’s presidential candidates (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation announced on Friday (Nov. 10) that former President Ma Ying-jeou is in favor of conducting a public poll to decide the final candidate combination for the upcoming presidential race in Taiwan.
Xiao Xucen, during his interview with POP News, a local radio show, revealed that a prominent figure from the blue camp had recently proposed to Ma the idea of comparing the "Hou-Ko" and "Ko-Hou" pairings against the Democratic Progressive Party's "Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim" duo through a public poll.
The results of this poll would then be used to determine the final ticket, he explained.
The possibility of an alliance between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has led to discussions about who will run as the presidential or vice presidential candidate. The potential combinations under consideration are KMT's Hou Yu-ih and TPP's Ko Wen-je in varying roles.
According to Xiao, Ma Ying-jeou strongly supports this approach. Xiao also mentioned that he had communicated this proposal to Hou's campaign office and the party.
