SBL player Wu Chi-ying faces fraud, match-fixing charges (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Super Basketball League (SBL) player Wu Chi-ying was released on a NT＄250,000 bail on Wednesday (Oct. 19) by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office (SDPO) on charges of alleged fraud and match-fixing.
The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association held a disciplinary meeting in the evening and officially announced a lifetime ban on Wu — he is no longer permitted to enter basketball courts, assume coaching roles, or serve as a referee, thus ending his basketball career.
Wu was accused of manipulating and match-fixing games, as shown in online screenshots of his conversation with friends, stating that he could earn NT＄300,000 to NT＄500,000 per game.
The 25-year-old basketball player purchased luxury cars, lived in high-end properties, and sold branded watches, raising suspicions among prosecutors.
Wu faced charges of gambling, fraud, and violation of the Sports Lottery Issuance Act following the hearing at the SDPO, and residency restrictions have been imposed.
Police have confiscated Wu's mobile phone to check conversation records while not ruling out the possibility of more players involved in match-fixing.
