TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's National Day (Oct. 10) may see showers due to instability in the South China Sea and Northwestern Pacific Ocean, according to a recent model from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

According to a Facebook fan page, "Lin's Weather Station," a new tropical disturbance with the potential to develop into a typhoon has also emerged. It will likely form following the holiday. The team is monitoring this ongoing development closely.

Lin's Weather Station estimates that the South China Sea and Northwestern Pacific will produce 244 typhoons for October, constituting 14.5% of the annual total.

Typhoon Koinu has just lifted its land warning as of 2 a.m. Friday (Oct. 6) morning. As of 6 a.m., Koinu was located approximately 290 kilometers west of Eluanbi, moving westward at 8 kilometers per hour.

Sporadic rainfall in Taiwan will likely continue until next Monday, while humidity brought by the northeastern monsoon will increase the chances of rain in northern Taiwan on Double Tenth Day.

Typical weather with occasional cloudiness is expected across regions by Wednesday and Thursday, with intermittent rain in north coastal and northeastern regions and afternoon showers in the central and southern mountainous areas.
