Military fuel pipeline leak causes strong odor in Kaohsiung (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A military fuel pipeline leak caused a strong, pungent smell that spread at an intersection in Kaohsiung City's Fengshan District on Tuesday night (Oct. 3).
In response to the incident, the Kaohsiung City Environmental Protection Bureau said it will impose a fine of NT$100,000 to NT$5 million, according to Article 32 of the Air Pollution Control Act for the said leak.
Though the leaked substance, aviation turbine fuel JP-8, is not considered toxic, excessive inhalation can still lead to human health issues, including dizziness and nausea.
The Environmental Protection Bureau alerted the CPC Corporation to shut down the related pipeline valve and dispatched trucks to clear the remaining fuel.
