TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — The National Property Administration, the owner of a piece of land in Shalu District, Taichung City, was fined NT$1,200 on Monday (Oct. 2) by the Taichung City Government's Environmental Protection Bureau for allowing garbage to accumulate in the area.

The trash pile, reportedly "higher than a person," has been a source of concern for locals due to its unpleasant odor and potential to attract rodents and insects, exacerbated by recent hot weather. It is located in an alley next to the Shalu District Farmers' Association on Sha Tin Road.

According to reports, an elderly man, known to recycle waste in that area, is attributed to accumulating trash. The once spacious alley, previously accommodating for bikes, is now congestibly blocked with garbage.

In response, the bureau sent a notice to the landowner demanding the area be cleaned within an imposed deadline. To prevent further illicit dumping, surveillance cameras will be installed in the area.

Penalties for any future offenses could range from NT$1,200 to NT$6,000. This action aims to restore order and uphold environmental standards in the Shalu District.
