Tai dominates Mongolian opponent, advances in Asian Games (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's top-ranked badminton player, Tai Tzu-ying, breezed into the last 16 of the Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday (Oct. 3).
In only 19 minutes, Tai defeated Mongolian player Munkhtsetseg Altangerel in straight sets, 21-2 and 21-2, in her first singles match.
Having clinched gold at last year's Jakarta Asian Games in the women's singles event, Tai is competing this year as the third seed.
There was a significant skills gap between her and the Mongolian competitor, who failed to pose a threat to the Taiwanese star on the court.
Looking to the next round, Tai might face a Japanese player, Aya Ohori. This matchup could be a more challenging test for Tai, who has started her Asian Games campaign on a strong note.
Tai's performance in the coming matches will be closely watched as she aims to replicate last year's success.
