TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A moderate typhoon named Koinu is currently situated around 460 kilometers southeast of Cape Eluanbi and is steadily progressing toward Taiwan.
As of Tuesday morning (Oct. 3), the typhoon was moving west-northwest. A sea warning was issued late Monday night to indicate the approaching system. A land warning was issued at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Experts predict that Taiwan's eastern and southern mountainous regions will experience the most significant effects.
Weather experts anticipate that the storm's intensity will continue to increase. The typhoon's rain and winds are expected to peak by Wednesday and Thursday. Projections indicate a landfall somewhere between Hengchun Peninsula and Taitung on Thursday.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung.
Heavy or torrential rainfall is expected in the country's northern, southern, and central parts, especially in mountainous areas. Residents are cautioned about possible landslides.
