Ko Wen-je questions KMT’s sincerity on coalition (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, the presidential candidate of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), lamented on Wednesday (Sept. 27) that the Kuomintang (KMT) has repeatedly expressed a desire for collaboration, yet seems lacking in sincerity.
As the 2024 elections approach, the voices calling for KMT and TPP collaboration are becoming louder.
Rumors suggest that Han Kuo-yu, the former mayor of Kaohsiung, will in October lend his influence to facilitate this coalition, advocating for a union between KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih and Ko Wen-je.
However, this coalition requires that Hou relinquish any aspiration to the vice-presidential role.
In response, Ko noted that successful collaboration requires a shared consensus, especially the shared ideologies, and should not devolve into a contest of power.
Ko stressed the significance of inter-party cooperation, noting that while political perspectives may not entirely align, harmony in values and principles is vital. Regarding possible collaboration, he declined to provide a definitive answer.
