TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 1) that it will temporarily send specialists from Taiwan to support their Arizona factory, which has experienced delays. With the limited availability of specialists, TSMC's goal of hiring 12,000 local employees remains unchanged.

During a public hearing in July, TSMC explained that it had postponed mass production of the 4-nanometer process technology due to a lack of technical skills among local labor in the U.S. Originally, the production was scheduled to begin in 2024, but it has now been moved to 2025.

However, TSMC's decision to send staff from Taiwan has received criticism from local unions, who accused the company of blaming American workers and using it as an excuse to hire low-wage foreign labor.

In response, TSMC made it clear that they remain committed to local recruitment efforts. They emphasized that they would never replace local workers with foreign staff and will prioritize hiring local personnel.
