TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — A factory in central Taiwan's Taichung City was suddenly engulfed in flames at around 9:30 am on Monday (July 31), with nearby residents reporting sounds of explosions.

A preliminary inspection found no one trapped in the Shengang District's factory, and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to assist in evacuating the staff and moving parked cars away from the flames.

Locals stated that the explosion sounds continued, with debris shooting off in all directions, including an iron sheet that flew 150 meters away from the site.

The village chief explained that the factory contained flammable items such as diapers, paper boxes, and hazardous chemicals, likely resulting in the explosions.

Three other factories nearby have also caught on fire as the flames spread.

Despite the high-density smoke engulfing the area, Taiwan's high-speed rail maintained regular operations without disruptions.

Thirty fire trucks and around 90 firefighters have since been dispatched to try to contain the flames, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
