TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen joined the Central Police University commencement ceremony on Tuesday, where she emphasized the importance of police officers in society and encouraged graduates to remain dedicated to their duties.
During her speech, President Tsai underscored the multifaceted role of police officers, highlighting their vital role in maintaining public order, enforcing laws, and detecting criminal activities. She assured the students that the government would continue to support upgrading software and hardware to bolster their efforts.
President Tsai stressed the significance of empathy in police work, urging the graduates to remain true to themselves and display compassion when assisting those in need. She also emphasized the need for continuous learning, reminding the students that graduation should not mark the end of their pursuit of knowledge, especially as criminals adapt to new technologies.
In her remarks, President Tsai expressed her aspirations for the young graduates to become catalysts for change and encouraged them to actively voice their opinions to improve the police system, which should effectively cater to the needs of the people they serve.
The Tsai government recently announced a 15% increase in the police duty allowance, effective from July 1, and a rise in meal stipends for students at Taiwan Police College last month. These gestures serve as recognition for the hard work and contributions of police officers to society.
