NEW TAIPEI, Taiwan (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih participated in the Dragon Boat Championship preparations by attending a ceremony at Luzhou Breeze Park on Tuesday (May 30).
The Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate expressed his hope for another successful race this year, highlighting his consistent attendance at dragon boat races throughout his term.
The ceremonial act of "dotting the dragons' eyes" symbolizes the desire for smooth and prosperous races, with officials invited to perform the honor.
Addressing his absence from Kinmen County, Hou explained that prior commitments prevented his attendance but stressed the crucial role of Kinmen's geographical location in promoting peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
He stressed that he would arrange another visit to Kinmen to engage with residents, understand their challenges, and work towards resolving them collaboratively.
