TAIPEI (TVBS News) — With the Lunar New Year holiday fast approaching, doctors in Taiwan are warning against the possible spread of COVID variants and the Norovirus during family gatherings.
Local pediatricians report that most patients had the flu or COVID recently, but another dangerous virus — the Norovirus causing stomach aches and diarrhea — is spreading too.
Medical experts reminded the public that alcohol disinfectants cannot destroy the Norovirus (unlike COVID-19), meaning frequent hand-washing is the best way to avoid infection.
As the Norovirus spreads through food or water contaminated during preparation or through contaminated surfaces, family meals shared during the Lunar New Year holiday could lead to a new peak of infections.
Meanwhile, doctors expect another peak in COVID cases in early March, following the Chinese New Year break and the February 28th Memorial Day long weekend.
