Poll: Taiwan president’s approval rate lowest in 44 months

TAIPEI (TVBS News) —  A survey by the Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation released Tuesday (Dec. 21) shows Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen's approval rate has dropped to its lowest level in 44 months.

Since the defeat of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in the 2022 local elections, Taiwanese people are showing more dissatisfaction with the government's policies. 

Tsai's approval rate dropped to 37.5%, down from 51.2% in October. Also, over 53% of people believe Premiere Su Tseng-chang should resign before next year.

Another survey shows the most popular candidates in the 2024 presidential election. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih comes first with 68.1%, followed by Vice President Lai Ching-te with 59.71%. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je comes in the third position and Kuomintang Chairman Eric Chu last.
