TAIPEI (TVBS NEWS) — A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit eastern Taiwan on Thursday (Dec. 12) at noon, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The temblor's epicenter was located at sea about 29.1 km southeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 5.7 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in several areas in Hualien County and neighboring Taitung, Yilan, and Nantou, where it measured four on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale, the CWB said.
The quake also measured an intensity of 2 in Taipei and Hsinchu City, but an intensity of 4 in Nantou County, Taichung, and Changhua County, the CWB added.
