YUNLIN (TVBS News) — Chicken farmers in central Taiwan, Yunlin County, keep their chicken coops warm in preparation for the upcoming cold wave.

This weekend's temperatures are expected to dip under 10 degrees Celcius, increasing the risk factor for chicks.

The chicks cannot adjust their own temperature and need outside help to regulate their body temperature, according to a farmer. Most chicken coops are kept at around 30 degrees Celcius to ensure the survival of the chicks.

Chicken farmers have already lined up gas cylinders to light lights to keep the coops warm. They have also put up canvases outside to block the cold winds.

The chicken farmer said that they also have to check on the chicks at night.
