TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The epidemic continues to spread in mainland China, and according to the commander of the Central Epidemic Command Center, Victor Wang, the outbreak may reach its peak in 2 months.
As many will be traveling back to Taiwan from the mainland for Chinese New Year, the CECC is urging children to get vaccinated or re-vaccinated.
Against this backdrop, Doctor Chiang Kuan-yu said, "China may have a wave of exponential rise after they announce a lift of the ban."
For children aged 5 to 11, the administration of booster vaccines restarted on Dec. 2.
Up to 1,670 people were vaccinated on the first day. In Taiwan, for children from 6 months old to 4 years old, the vaccination rate of the first dose is about 45%, and for the second dose, about 20%.
As mask regulations have recently loosened in Taiwan, masks are no longer deemed mandatory when outdoors. However, doctors are still urging the public to wear a mask, when possible, for self-protection.
Doctor Hwang Kao-pin suggested the government to not make any further changes when it comes to mask regulations until at least March of next year.
