The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) has abruptly halted the solicitation of tours to China, reversing its previous policy. Originally scheduled to open on March 1, tours from Taiwan to China were limited to a daily reference cap of 2,000 people, with the possibility of adjustments based on the travel industry’s ability to attract customers. The decision to halt the tours immediately was made in response to China’s failure to organize tours to Taiwan and its unilateral change of the M503 flight route without goodwill, which poses a threat to flight safety. The Tourism Administration, a part of the MOTC, believes that given the current circumstances, it is not in the best interest of Taiwanese nationals to travel to China. They continue to appeal to China to demonstrate goodwill and promote cross-strait tourism exchange. Tours that have already been solicited and are due to depart between March 1 and May 31, 2024, will proceed as planned to protect passenger rights, but tours after June 1 are not permitted to depart. Travel companies are urged to refrain from soliciting customers to avoid potential disputes.

A transfer bridge on the Wenhu Line at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station of the Taipei Metro experienced a swarm of commuters due to a delayed automated train. The train failed to depart as scheduled, prompting officials to ask the approximately 300 passengers to disembark and board subsequent trains. Regular operations resumed shortly after. The train was moved to a siding, and initial investigations suggest a communication disruption with the vehicle control unit triggered the train’s self-protection mode and caused it to stop. The incident’s cause will be further analyzed after the day’s operations. Social media users reported having to wait for multiple trains at Daan Station and a brief stoppage at Technology Building metro station.

The Taiwan Youth Association for Democracy (TYAD) has successfully concluded its fundraiser to help students return home to vote in the upcoming 2024 Elections. The fundraising drive, which started on December 8, aimed to reduce the costs of youth returning home to vote. Nearly 1,200 donors contributed NT＄660,000 to the cause, allowing youth to take buses home to vote for just NT＄113. The plan includes ferry service from Kaohsiung to Penghu and flights to Kinmen. If donations exceed NT＄700,000, three additional routes will be added, and if they surpass NT＄800,000, 10 more routes will be added. The buses will depart from 10 universities and municipalities’ train stations, with 27 pick-up and drop-off points. The fundraiser will conclude on December 29, 2023, and the association encourages continued public interest and support to fulfill the voting needs of more Taiwanese youth. The 2024 presidential and legislative elections, to be held on January 13, have generated significant attention for this fundraising project.

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) will add an additional northbound train on Sunday night (Nov. 12) to accommodate Coldplay fans attending the band’s performances at Kaohsiung National Stadium on Nov. 11 and 12. The train will depart from Zuoying Station at 10:30 p.m. and arrive at Taipei Station at 12:30 a.m., making stops at Tainan, Chiayi, Taichung, Hsinchu, Taoyuan, and Banqiao stations. Tickets will be sold at 00:00 am on Nov. 11, and THSR advises travelers to plan their onward travel accordingly. Tickets can be booked through the T-EX mobile ticketing app, THSR’s online booking system, convenience stores, or train stations. Non-reserved seat tickets can also be purchased on the day of travel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has arranged a repatriation flight for Taiwanese nationals and compatriots in Israel to leave the country. The flight is scheduled to depart from Tel Aviv Airport and arrive at Rome International Airport in Italy. Remaining seats will be offered to embassy personnel and overseas Chinese from friendly countries. MOFA and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office have been assisting Taiwanese nationals in leaving Israel since a terror attack by Hamas on October 7. So far, 157 Taiwanese nationals have been successfully evacuated.

第33屆金曲獎頒獎典禮於昨（2）日在高雄巨蛋圓滿落幕，蔡健雅以專輯《DEPART》奪下「最佳華語女歌手獎」、「最佳華語專輯獎」、「年度專輯獎」及「最佳演唱錄音專輯獎」4項大獎，為本屆最大贏家。金曲熱度不斷，昨晚五月天的主唱阿信也轉發美麗佳人貼出的「金曲獎冷知識」，提到得獎最多的專輯保持人就是五月天，創紀錄的《第二人生》更被封為神專輯。

第33屆金曲獎入圍名單今（18）日公布，本屆計有273家報名、1544張專輯及EP、20721件作品參賽，經83名評審委員以初審、資格審及複審三階段，歷時3個月的評審作業，決議本年入圍名單，計173件作品角逐27個獎項。其中，環球唱片入圍15項表現最亮眼，專輯作品則以蔡健雅的《DEPART》入圍8項奪冠，另本屆特別貢獻獎頒發予資深音樂人邱晨及陳復明。

三屆「金曲歌后」蔡健雅（Tanya）歌藝、創作力俱佳，近期她上節目宣傳新專輯《DEPART》，談及自己2016年愛上甜點，突發奇想「我不要做音樂了，我要去學甜點！」便到法國學做甜點、烘焙，甚至拿到證照，一度考慮就此展開新事業，「我真的覺得我會做這件事情，但後來我就覺得不要。」
