上個月，印尼一處森林發生火災，大火不僅燒掉了珍貴的自然資源，更燒毀了許多動物的家園，其中住在森林裡的紅毛猩猩們，就是最大的受災戶，不少猩猩在這場天災中喪命，更有多許多猩猩雖幸運逃出火場，卻是更不幸的開始。
其中有一隻母猩猩帶著孩子跑出森林，躲過無情大火，逃到附近一個村莊找尋住所和食物，卻遭受到當地人攻擊，險些被石頭活活砸死；等到動物救援組織(IAR)發現時，猩猩寶寶仍緊緊抓住媽媽的身體，而媽媽則是骨瘦如柴、嚴重脫水，幸運的是母子倆都被成功搶救正接受治療。
「牠們不會是我們救的最後兩隻猩猩。」救援人員說悲痛而堅定！因為不久後他們在印尼邊緣的一處村莊，找到這個可憐的小傢伙，救援組織把牠取名叫「Gito」，被發現時，牠被裝在一個骯髒的紙箱內，儼然成為一具小木乃伊，嚴重的脫水讓小猩猩毛髮乾涸、雙眼無神，被丟棄在陽光下等待死亡。
經過9個小時的路程，好不容易將Gito送回組織內，開始一連串的治療，Gito的狀態讓救援人員都無法相信牠能活下去，但經過一個多月的細心照料，昨日IAR在官方臉書上PO出最新影片，小Gito雙眼明亮、色澤亮麗的抱著大泰迪熊跑來跑去，可愛的模樣一露出，就讓許多粉絲好興奮；而IAR也在臉書上寫下，Gito開放「虛擬認養」，想要幫助牠的民眾都可以出一份心力。
其實不只Gito，IAR表示，有許多猩猩寶寶都是因為一開始被當成寵物，之後又遭棄養，以及之前的森林大火，導致在野外無法生存而受傷、喪命，每個生命都是值得被尊重的，不論是天災或人禍，都期盼生物與自然能和平共處。
