TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Zhonggang Light Sculpture Exhibition (中港大排光雕展), featuring more than three million LED lights, opened last Friday (March 6) in New Taipei City's Xinzhuang District and runs through March 29. The 24-day nighttime display, themed "2026 New Taipei City Zhonggang Light Festival" (星耀中港 夢幻星河), transforms the Zhonggang river corridor, a popular urban waterway in northern Taiwan, into an illuminated walkway with four themed lighting zones.
The New Taipei City Water Resources Department (新北市水利局) organized the annual event, which features four themed lighting zones along the Zhonggang river corridor. The installations combine colorful LED lighting with projection effects along the winding riverside walkway, forming a continuous "galaxy corridor." Water Resources Department Director Sung Te-jen (宋德仁) stated that the event creates an immersive nighttime environment where visitors can stroll while surrounded by flowing starlight.
The illuminated displays extend along the river corridor and connect several pedestrian bridges, designed to highlight the city's night scenery. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a 7-meter-tall (23-foot-tall) illuminated installation known as the "Tree of Starlight" (星耀之樹), located beneath Zixin Bridge. The towering light sculpture, designed to resemble a glowing tree, reflects surrounding galaxy-themed lighting effects and has become a popular photo spot drawing many visitors.
Additional decorations include a 3-meter-tall (10-foot-tall) white polar bear installation accompanied by penguin figures, creating a whimsical polar-themed setting along the corridor. Bridges, stairways, and railings are decorated with shimmering lights throughout the exhibition area, enhancing the festive nighttime atmosphere. The illuminated displays create the impression of a dreamlike world woven from light and stars, drawing visitors who stop to take photographs at various installations along the walkway.
The exhibition will run through Saturday (March 29), offering visitors nightly opportunities to experience the illuminated riverside corridor in New Taipei City's Xinzhuang District. The Zhonggang river corridor, a revitalized urban waterway, has become a popular destination for nighttime activities in the greater Taipei metropolitan area. The event attracts families and couples seeking scenic walking paths and photography opportunities along the decorated bridges and walkways. ◼
