TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) invited residents to enjoy the cherry blossoms and cheer for Team Taiwan during the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) game against Japan on Friday (March 6). He shared on Facebook that catching a cherry blossom petal can make wishes come true, encouraging people to visit designated viewing spots.
The Taipei City Government's Parks and Street Lights Office (台北市政府工務局公園路燈工程管理處) reported that cherry blossoms, including Kawazu-zakura (河津櫻) and Tairyo-zakura (大漁櫻), have bloomed in Daan Forest Park (大安森林公園). The Taipei Azalea Festival (台北杜鵑花季) also began on Friday, featuring azaleas and hydrangeas, along with music performances, a style market, and interactive activities.
The Taipei Rose Festival (台北玫瑰展) at Taipei Expo Park's Xinsheng Park (新生公園) also opened on Friday, showcasing over 800 varieties and 5,000 rose plants, with 40% currently in bloom. Mayor Chiang has invited the public to attend live broadcast parties at Xiangti Avenue Plaza (信義香堤大道) and the outdoor plaza of the Taipei Performing Arts Center (台北表演藝術中心) to support Team Taiwan.
Residents can use the Taipei Cherry Blossom Map to locate the best spots for viewing. Mayor Chiang emphasized the cultural significance of cherry blossoms, inviting citizens to make wishes under the trees. The festivities offer a blend of nature, culture, and community spirit, providing a vibrant backdrop for the baseball event.
