TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taoyuan International Airport (桃園機場) announced on Thursday (Feb. 12) that they are preparing to accommodate an estimated 2.74 million passengers during the Lunar New Year and Peace Memorial Day (228和平紀念日) travel period from Friday (Feb. 13) to March 2. Authorities expect daily passenger traffic to reach 160,000 starting Friday, with outbound peaks from Friday to Sunday (Feb. 15) and inbound peaks from Feb. 20-22.
Airport officials, together with customs, immigration, quarantine, and security units, have ramped up preparations. They recommend travelers use mobile or online check-in options or utilize the city check-in services at Taipei Main Station (台北車站) and New Taipei Industrial Park Station (新北產業園區站). To ease traffic, authorities encourage the use of public transportation, offering free rides on the airport MRT with electronic tickets, while Kuo-Kuang Motor Transportation Company Ltd. (國光客運) and United Highway Bus Co., Ltd. (統聯客運) will add extra services.
For safety, passengers must carry power banks and Bluetooth earphones, including charging cases, in their hand luggage. Checked luggage should adhere to the four principles: no loose covers, no long straps, no prohibited items, and no loose packaging. Ice cleats for snowy destinations must be checked in. To expedite security checks, passengers should remove coats, hats, and belts and separately present laptops and tablets. Emptying water bottles beforehand will also help reduce wait times. Travelers should expect efficient processing with these measures in place.
