She noted that negotiations are rarely met with applause, yet they are vital to a nation's long-term stability.
Tsai expressed gratitude on Facebook to the negotiating team and the administrative system for maintaining Taiwan's position under pressure. She reflected on her past experiences in international negotiations, highlighting the critical role such talks play in ensuring Taiwan remains trusted and visible on the global stage.
Tsai called on all political parties to support the Taiwan-U.S. tariff agreement and expressed confidence in the government's commitment to listening to affected industries and workers. She assured that the government would provide necessary support to prevent the burden of economic transition from falling on the most vulnerable.
Taiwan successfully concluded its tariff negotiations with the United States early Friday, marking a pivotal moment for the island's economic and trade system. The negotiations, which ended with Taiwan securing a 15% reciprocal tariff rate and the most-favored-nation treatment for semiconductors and derivatives under Section 232, have paved the way for US$250 billion in Taiwanese investment in the U.S.
