TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Metro deployed perfume vending machines at five MRT stations Friday (Jan. 9). The machines offer passengers quick fragrance sprays for NT$20 to NT$50 (around US$0.63 to US$1.58) per spray. Dongmen (東門), Taipei Main Station (台北車站), and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館) stations feature the new service.
Commuters access the machines inside station gates using touchscreen interfaces and smartphone payment systems. Each machine delivers a one-second spray that users apply to their wrists after selection. Dongmen Station's machine offers nine different scents for passengers choosing quick fragrance applications.
South Korean tourists praised the service's sufficient quantity and pleasant aroma to TVBS reporters. The visitors appreciated the convenience of purchasing quick sprays when they forgot to apply perfume before leaving home. Taipei Metro targets high-traffic stations based on passenger flow characteristics for this innovative business model.
Wang Fu Kai (王福闓), chairman of the Taiwan Marcom Certification Association (行銷傳播認證協會), analyzed the machines that cater to the convenience economy and social attributes. Wang emphasized the service particularly appeals to international tourists seeking unique experiences unavailable in their countries. The vending machines represent a distinctive attraction many nations do not offer to travelers.
