TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Performing Arts Center (台北表演藝術中心) hosted the 2025 Sports Elite Awards (體育運動精英獎) on Wednesday (Dec. 24), with Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Special Award. Cho expressed hope that Sports Minister Lee Yang (李洋) would continue to enhance the reputation of the Ministry of Sports (運動部).
The late volleyball coach Tsai Chung-bin (蔡崇濱) received the Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously for his nearly 50-year dedication to sports education. His widow, Tsai-Huang Hsiu-chiao (蔡黃秀喬), and son, Tsai Han-wen (蔡瀚文), accepted the award on his behalf. Cho highlighted Tsai Chung-bin's pioneering contributions to sports science in Taiwan, noting that the award was long overdue.
The Special Award was presented to Taiwan's baseball national team for their outstanding performance in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12 tournament. Head coach Tseng Hao-chu (曾豪駒) and five players, including baseball team captain Chen Chieh-hsien (陳傑憲), attended the ceremony. Cho praised the team's victory, saying every moment of their triumph deeply resonated with the nation's memory and bolstered national unity.
Cho reflected on the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC), sharing his excitement and anticipation for Taiwan's athletes to shine once more. He emphasized that, in addition to the WBC, the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will also showcase Taiwan's talents. He assured that the government would fully support the Sports Ministry, pledging to accelerate the country's sports development efforts.
