TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boy group Energy will perform Wednesday (Dec. 24) at a Taipei charity concert, marking the first public appearance for members Kunda (坤達) and Shuwei (書偉) since prosecutors indicted them for military service evasion. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地檢署) seeks 2 years and 8 months in prison for the two members. The 8 p.m. concert in a supermarket parking lot will feature heightened security following Dec. 19 deadly attacks in central Taipei.
Prosecutors indicted the two members under the Punishment Act for Violation to Military Service System (妨害兵役治罪條例), Taiwan's law criminalizing draft evasion. Energy's record label announced the group will suspend all activities except charity events and concerts at Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋), a major indoor venue, on Jan. 10-11 until June 30, 2026. The suspension follows public backlash over the military service evasion charges in a society where mandatory conscription is widely respected.
Energy has engaged in charitable activities during the suspension period, serving as ambassadors for pet adoption events and personally delivering food supplies to dog shelters across Taiwan. Kunda and his wife, actress Orange Hsieh (謝京穎), anticipate the arrival of twins next year amid the ongoing legal proceedings and public scrutiny. The charity work represents an effort to rebuild public image and demonstrate social responsibility following the scandal that significantly damaged the group's reputation.
The charity concert will feature Taiwanese performers Tarcy Su (蘇慧倫), Ding Dang (丁噹), Ann (白安), GBOYSWAG (鼓鼓呂思緯), and Xiao Bing Chih (蕭秉治) alongside Energy. Organizers deployed eight bodyguards, six police officers, and one police supervisor following Friday's (Dec. 19) deadly knife attacks in central Taipei that killed three people. The enhanced security reflects heightened public anxiety about mass gatherings after the random violence near Taipei Main Station, a major transportation hub. ◼
