TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Maple leaves at Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area (大雪山國家森林遊樂區) reached 80% color change on Thursday (Dec. 18), creating a vibrant display that has captivated visitors. The color transformation features red, orange, and yellow hues across the mountain recreation area, a popular destination in central Taiwan.

The Taichung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency (林業及自然保育署台中分署) reported the diversity of color-changing plants in the park includes Taiwan red maple, green maple, and sweetgum. The Agency said the spectacle began in high-altitude regions. Visitors can witness the transformation around Siaosyushan Tourist Information Station, the 49K parking lot, the 35K toll station, Shaolai Mountain Trail, and along Dasyueshan Forest Road from 35K to 49K.

The agency said cold air moving south will further enhance the leaf colors, making the best viewing period from Thursday (Dec. 18) until around Christmas (Dec. 25). The scenery is expected to last until the end of the year, providing conditions for nature photography and seasonal tourism throughout the mountain recreation area.

Tourists should prepare for low temperatures in the mountains, with an average range of 8 to 17 degrees Celsius (46 to 63°F), and are advised to bring warm clothing, hats, and gloves. The agency also encouraged visitors to stay updated on weather and road conditions. You can find more information on travel and updates on the maple foliage on the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's websites. ◼
