TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecaster Cheng Chieh-jen (鄭傑仁) warned Monday (Nov. 24) of significant shifting weather patterns as the northeast monsoon strengthens across Taiwan. The detailed forecast indicates scattered showers along Keelung's northern coast, north Taoyuan, and Yilan, with isolated rain in Hualien. The strengthening monsoon marks a significant weather transition affecting multiple regions across the island.

Cheng expects Tropical Depression TD30 to intensify into Typhoon Koto (颱風天琴) by Wednesday (Nov. 26), bringing significantly increased moisture to Taiwan from Wednesday to Thursday (Nov. 27). The coldest period will occur from Tuesday (Nov. 25) evening to Wednesday morning, with temperatures dropping to 14 to 16 degrees Celsius (57 to 61°F) in central and northern regions. Southern areas, Hualien and Taitung will experience milder temperatures of 18 to 19 degrees Celsius (64 to 66°F).

Moisture will move north Wednesday, causing scattered showers in northern, eastern, and Hengchun (恆春) areas, with isolated rain in central and southern mountain regions. High temperatures will range from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius (68 to 72°F) in the northern regions. Central and southern areas will see temperatures drop slightly to 22 to 23 degrees Celsius (72 to 73°F) Thursday due to significantly increased moisture.

Cheng advised the public to exercise caution for swells along eastern and Hengchun coasts from Tuesday evening to Friday (Nov. 28). Central Taiwan will experience significant temperature differences Wednesday, with morning lows of 14 degrees Celsius (57°F) and daytime highs of 26 degrees Celsius (79°F). Another northeast monsoon will intensify by Sunday (Nov. 30), bringing cooler temperatures to northern Taiwan and Yilan by Monday (Dec. 1). ◼
