TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A court sentenced former Super Basketball League (SBL, 超級籃球聯賽) MVP Ke Min-hao (柯旻豪) to seven years in prison Monday (Nov. 17) for match-fixing. The verdict follows a 2023 scandal that rocked Taiwan's basketball community after nearly 20 months of legal proceedings.
The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA, 中華籃球協會) , Taiwan's national basketball governing body, convened the country's three major leagues to draft unified anti-match-fixing regulations. Deputy Secretary-General Richard Chang (張承中) announced the new SBL season starting January will ban electronic devices for players and staff, pending Ministry of Sport (MOS, 運動部) approval.
The Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL, 台灣職業籃球大聯盟), established last year, already enforces electronic device bans during games. Acting Secretary-General Wang Chih-chun (王志群) emphasized the league's zero-tolerance stance on match-fixing and maintains communication with prosecutors.
The P. LEAGUE+ (PLG, 職籃PLG), founded in 2020, requires players to sign anti-gambling conduct codes. PLG collaborates with the Ministry of Justice (MOJ, 法務部) , Taiwan's justice ministry, and Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, 刑事局), and partners with Sports Radar's fraud detection system to monitor global betting. ◼
