TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory for five counties in Taiwan on Thursday (Oct. 23) as the northeast monsoon and Fengshen's (風神) peripheral circulation continue to drench the island's eastern and northern regions. This advisory comes as people prepare for the Retrocession Day (光復節) holiday.
Meteorologists warn that southern Hualien and Taitung residents should brace for rain on Thursday. They forecast persistent showers in northern Taiwan during the holiday period from Friday (Oct. 24) to Monday (Oct. 27). They noted the possibility of localized heavy rain in those regions, adding that Taoyuan and the Greater Taipei Area could also experience brief, heavy downpours.
The CWA forecasts wet and cool conditions for northern and northeastern Taiwan on Friday, with temperatures ranging from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. The northeast monsoon is expected to weaken slightly on Saturday (Oct. 25), leading to a temperature rise in central Taiwan. By Sunday (Oct. 26), the monsoon will strengthen again, bringing cooler temperatures to the north and Yilan.
The Administration anticipates that the northeast monsoon will continue affecting the weather over the next week. Rainfall in northern and northeastern Taiwan should ease from Friday night to Saturday, but will intensify again from Sunday. Meteorologists urge the public to stay informed with the latest weather updates and take precautions to ensure safety over the holiday.
