TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market hit another high Monday (Oct. 20), surging 386.26 points to close at 27,688.63 with trading volume reaching NT$485.859 billion (around US$15.9 billion). TSMC (台積電) and Foxconn (鴻海) shares rose NT$30 (around US$0.98) and NT$12 (around US$0.39) respectively, driving the rally with an intraday peak of 27,768.27.
November futures closed at 27,783 points, up 455 points, with 75,712 contracts traded, while December futures settled at 27,780 points, gaining 442 points with 758 contracts. The Taiwan Futures Exchange (台灣期貨交易) set opening reference prices for November and December index futures at 27,328 and 27,338 points respectively, signaling optimistic market outlook.
The electronics sector surged 1.91% while the financial sector declined 0.09%, with the over-the-counter index gaining 0.75%. TSMC shares touched NT$1,495 (around US$49.02) during the session, matching its historical high, before closing at NT$1,480 (around US$48.52). Foxconn ended at NT$238.5 (around US$7.82) and Delta Electronics (台達電) closed at NT$1,015 (around US$33.28), rejoining thousand-dollar stocks.
NVIDIA announced its first CPO technology silicon photonic network switch, adopted by Oracle and Meta, propelling related concept stocks to daily limit up. Browave (波若威), LandMark Optoelectronics (聯亞), and Axcen Photonics (創威) hit maximum gains as the announcement signaled potential tech sector growth with major players investing in cutting-edge technologies.
