TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kang-Ping Lin (林康平), a distinguished professor from Chung Yuan Christian University (中原大學), assumed leadership of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). According to an announcement by the university on Wednesday (Oct. 15), Lin took office in the organization this month, becoming the first Taiwanese scholar to hold this prestigious position. Lin's appointment highlights Taiwan's growing influence in the global biomedical engineering field.
Lin officially took over the IFMBE presidency during this year's World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, held in Adelaide, Australia from 29 Sept. to 4 Oct. During his inaugural speech, Lin encouraged attendees to value the essence of education and public engagement. He urged global partners to work together for the progress of IFMBE, emphasizing his commitment to promoting science, education, and international cooperation during his tenure.
Lin's long-standing dedication to promoting international academic collaboration and developing medical devices has established him as a leading expert in medical engineering. He has received awards for clinical engineering and serves as editor-in-chief for several international research journals. During the recent World Congress, Lin's team collaborated with NVIDIA in a special symposium to share their research findings, particularly in AI applications within Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Chung Yuan Christian University praised Lin's appointment as a recognition of his academic achievements and international contributions. The university noted that Lin's leadership reflects the success of their long-term efforts and underscores Taiwan's strength and influence in the global biomedical engineering arena.
The IFMBE, a non-governmental organization under the United Nations, is part of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine and the International Science Council. The IFMBE strives to advance research, development, and applications in medical and biological engineering worldwide.
