TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China announced Wednesday (Oct. 15) plans to expand on-arrival visa services for Taiwanese citizens through its Taiwan Affairs Office (中共中央臺灣工作辦公室). Spokesperson Chen Binhua (陳斌華) said the policy aims to enhance travel convenience and promote cross-strait exchanges. The expansion builds on existing services at 46 mainland Chinese ports.
Currently, 46 Chinese ports including Sanya, Xiamen, Shanghai, Beijing, and Nanjing accept applications for the "single-entry Taiwan Compatriot Permit" (一次有效台胞證). Chen confirmed Taiwanese citizens can apply upon arrival regardless of their departure point, including direct flights from Taiwan or connections through Hong Kong, Macau, or third countries.
Chinese authorities will release additional policy details and a complete list of eligible ports in coming announcements. Chen emphasized the initiative creates more seamless travel conditions for Taiwanese citizens visiting mainland China, the People's Republic of China. The expansion supports what Beijing describes as peaceful cross-strait development and integration.
China's National Immigration Administration (中國國家移民管理局) confirms Taiwanese citizens can apply for single-entry permits at designated port immigration offices. The expansion follows Beijing's recent waiver of initial application fees for Taiwan Compatriot Permits. These measures signal continued efforts to facilitate travel and interaction across the Taiwan Strait. ◼
