TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan launched its inaugural Taiwan Weeks 2025 (台灣週) Wednesday (Oct. 15), marking a strategic push by the Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會), Taiwan's financial regulator, to establish the island as Asia's asset management hub. Commission head Peng Jin-lung (彭金隆) described the initiative as pivotal for Taiwan's financial future.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) delivered a video message highlighting Taiwan's resilience amid global instability. He cited Taiwan's impressive stock market performance this year, which has attracted global capital inflows and reinforced the island's role in global value chains. Cho announced plans to launch an "Asia Innovation Financing Platform" (亞洲創新籌資平台) on Monday (Oct. 21) to strengthen Taiwan's international financial position.
Peng acknowledged challenges in establishing Taiwan as an asset management hub while emphasizing the commission's commitment to leveraging Taiwan's unique competitive advantages. The commission unveiled its Asian asset management center vision over a year ago, requiring deregulation of more than 50 laws. Taiwan's government has promoted the Kaohsiung International Asset Management Center (高雄資產管理示範專區), which has attracted 34 financial institutions.
Taiwan Weeks runs from until Thursday (Oct. 23), featuring forums, seminars, and exhibitions organized by the commission with securities firms, government officials, and academic institutions. Events across Taipei and Kaohsiung aim to showcase Taiwan's financial capabilities and engage stakeholders from multiple sectors. ◼
