TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported Friday (Sept. 26) that Severe Tropical Storm Opong is affecting marine conditions along eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula. Scattered rainfall hit Keelung's northern coast, eastern regions, and mountainous areas as two active typhoons track through the northwestern Pacific. The weather bureau, Taiwan's national meteorological agency, issued updates on the storm's trajectory and local impacts.

Severe Tropical Storm Opong was positioned 1,080 kilometers (671 miles) south-southeast of Oluanpi at 8 a.m. Friday. The storm will track through southern Philippine islands this weekend, enter the South China Sea, and approach the Indochina Peninsula early next week. CWA forecasters predict easterly winds will weaken from Sunday through Monday as high-pressure systems shift eastward.

The CWA forecasts predominantly cloudy to clear skies with temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) beginning Saturday. Taiwan will experience weaker wind patterns Monday through Thursday, creating variable weather conditions and afternoon thunderstorms. Weather officials advised residents to monitor forecasts before outdoor activities during this transitional period. ◼
