TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration, Taiwan's weather bureau, lifted typhoon warnings Tuesday (Sept. 23) as Ragasa (樺加沙) moved away from Taiwan. The storm's departure brought relief to officials monitoring the typhoon's path across the island. Significant impacts from the typhoon continued affecting multiple regions despite the warning cancellation.
Pingtung County Government evacuated 102 residents from Manzhou Township (滿州鄉) due to gusts exceeding level 10 (89 to 102 km/h) and waves surpassing 6 meters (19.7 feet). Authorities relocated 88 evacuees to a hotel in Hengchun (恆春) as intense rainfall began impacting the region a day earlier, around 9 p.m. The emergency evacuation highlighted the typhoon's dangerous conditions affecting Taiwan's southern coastal areas.
Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) deployed 142 engineers Tuesday morning to restore electricity in Pingtung following typhoon-related outages. According to company officials, the utility company restored power to 1,590 households by 6 p.m. on Monday. Taipower director Chiu Chung-ming (仇忠銘) attributed the outages primarily to strong gusts breaking distribution lines across the affected region.
Vendors at Pingtung's Fan-Liau Fishing Port (枋寮漁港) closed early as typhoon precautionary measures. Kenting's (墾丁) South Bay (南灣) coast experienced 3-meter-high (9.8-foot) waves and level 6 (38 to 49 km/h) winds during the storm. Coast Guards maintained around-the-clock patrols to ensure visitor safety amid the dangerous coastal conditions.
