The groups aim to promote international exchange during the pivotal event, widely recognized as a precursor to the United Nations Climate Change Conferences. Their participation represents Taiwan's ongoing efforts to contribute to global climate discussions despite diplomatic challenges.
The Taiwan Climate Action Network (TCAN, 台灣氣候行動網絡研究中心) held a pre-departure press conference earlier that day, highlighting Climate Week NYC's significance amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. Director Chia-Wei Chao (趙家緯) noted that organizers expect 100,000 participants from around the world. Chao emphasized that climate action cannot be delayed, underscoring the urgency of global environmental challenges.
The Taiwan Climate Action Network will host a forum titled "Climate Ambition in the Asia-Pacific: Progressive NDC 3.0 for Stronger National Resilience" Sept. 23 to discuss regional climate commitments. Chao pointed out that only 32 countries have submitted NDC 3.0 emissions reduction plans to the United Nations, representing just 21% of global emissions. Taiwan has drafted an NDC 3.0 plan but lacks concrete policy goals and needs more active carbon emission reduction efforts.
The Taiwan Green Energy for Charity Association (台灣綠能公益發展協會) will organize a forum titled "From Girls to Grannies: Gender-Responsive Climate Solutions for a Just Transition Across Generations" Sept. 24. Founding president Chen Hui-ping (陳惠萍) stated that extreme heat poses a deadly threat, with marginalized groups facing the greatest risks. The forum will explore integrating gender perspectives into comprehensive net-zero strategies and climate adaptation measures.
