TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Charlie Torres, the NBA's top trainer, guided the HBL basketball teams of Kainan High School (開南高中) and Dongtai High School (東泰高中) in Taipei on Monday (Sept. 8). Torres, renowned for training NBA stars such as the Mavericks' sharpshooter Klay Thompson and Lakers' standout Luka Doncic, exclusively shared insights about their exceptional talents with TVBS.
Torres described Thompson and Doncic as genius players with towering heights close to 6 feet 8 inches and physiques resembling "tanks". He highlighted Thompson's resilience and fierce determination, noting his aversion to losing in any game, whether ping pong or pool. Torres humbly remarked that while Thompson's shooting prowess is outstanding, he only played a part in his development.
Torres has also trained 14 top U.S. high school teams and praised the Taiwanese-American Ho brothers, Adam Hinton and Robert Hinton, for their potential. He described the brothers' future as limitless and noted Robert's strong physical attributes, shooting, dribbling, and passing skills. Torres believes Harvard University provides an excellent environment for Bo's growth.
Adam Hinton plays for Cornell University, where Torres appreciates the academic setting's benefits for his future development. Adam recently contributed significantly to Taiwan's national team victory against Jordan in the Asia Cup, scoring 18 points, grabbing four rebounds, and making one assist and one steal. His performance earned him an outstanding player award.
In his NCAA rookie season, Robert matched an Ivy League record by earning eight weekly best rookie titles. Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka even attended some of his games, highlighting the growing attention on Robert's promising career.
