TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Dongyuan Elementary School (台北市東園國小) baseball team secured a historic 7-0 victory over Nevada's Las Vegas team in the Little League World Series championship game Sunday (Aug. 24). The triumph marks Taiwan's first Little League World Series title in 29 years and represents the island's 18th championship at the prestigious youth baseball tournament in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Taiwan holds the record for most Little League World Series titles of any country outside the United States, having previously won five consecutive championships from 1977 to 1981.
Taiwan's young athletes dominated Nevada's Las Vegas team during the morning championship game in Pennsylvania. Pitcher Lin Chin-Tse (林晉擇) emerged as the game's standout performer, throwing 4.1 perfect innings while also delivering a crucial bases-clearing triple in the fifth inning. The ace pitcher, who can throw 80 mph, carried a perfect game into the fifth inning, retiring the first 13 batters he faced before allowing his first hit. Taiwan capitalized on early pitching struggles by the American team, securing a 1-0 lead in the second inning through strategic patience at the plate.
Taiwan's offensive strategy proved effective as the team extended its lead to 2-0 in the third inning through a perfectly executed bunt followed by a costly throwing error from the American pitcher. The Taiwanese players demonstrated remarkable discipline and skill throughout the early innings, accumulating five hits and drawing four walks by the fourth inning's conclusion while maintaining their 2-0 advantage over their opponents.
Taiwan's batters showcased extraordinary patience and discipline during the pivotal fifth inning, drawing three consecutive walks with one out to load the bases. Lin Chin-Tse (林晉擇) then delivered the decisive blow with a bases-clearing triple that expanded Taiwan's lead to 5-0. Lin drove in three runs with the triple during Taiwan's explosive five-run fifth inning. A subsequent throwing error by the American team allowed Taiwan to score two additional runs, establishing a commanding 7-0 advantage that would prove insurmountable.
