TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese actress Shu Qi's (舒淇) self-directed film "Girl" (女孩) has been nominated to the Toronto International Film Festival's Centrepiece Programme. This recognition follows its entry into the main competition at the Venice Film Festival, marking another milestone in its international acclaim.
Shu Qi expressed gratitude in a press release, acknowledging the crew's hard work since May in the intense summer heat. She noted that their dedication played a crucial role in the film's success on the international stage. Producer Yeh Ju-fen (葉如芬) also expressed appreciation for the Toronto festival's selection, hoping it will help "Girl" reach a wider audience.
Set in 1988 at Keelung's harbor, "Girl" features a cast including Roy Chiu (邱澤), 9m88, Bai Xiao-Ying (白小櫻), and Audrey Lin (林品彤). The narrative explores the intertwined lives of girls and women, reflecting on their fates and creating a rich tapestry of interconnected stories.
The festival edition trailer, which premiered on Wednesday (Aug. 6), adds depth to the narrative by showcasing two girls interpreting the same cloud differently. This scene highlights the characters' differences and enriches the story's imaginative scope, inviting audiences to delve deeper into the film's themes.
