TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hot weather continues to rise as the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 6) the Pacific High extending westward. The shifting wind patterns near Taiwan to a south-southwesterly and southerly direction are reducing moisture levels, resulting in mostly cloudy to sunny skies across the region.
Temperatures in northern Taiwan are expected to reach between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, with the Greater Taipei area potentially exceeding 37 degrees. In central and southern regions, temperatures are expected to range from 33 to 35 degrees, while in Hualien and Taitung, temperatures will be between 31 and 33 degrees. Offshore islands like Penghu (澎湖), Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (馬祖) will experience temperatures ranging from 26 to 31 degrees.
According to the CWA, there may be occasional showers from early morning to noon along the southern and central coasts, while northern regions and mountainous areas may encounter occasional thundershowers in the afternoon. The administration also warned of potential landslides and falling rocks in mountainous areas due to the recent rainfall, urging people planning activities in these areas to exercise caution.
