TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's highly anticipated adaptation of "Our Blues" (我們的藍調時光) unveiled its star-studded cast Thursday (July 24), featuring popular actors Vic Chou (周渝民), Ning Chang (張鈞甯), and Lu Yi-ching (陸弈靜). Executive producer Angie Chai (柴智屏) pledged to deliver a distinctly Taiwanese interpretation that diverges from the original Korean drama. The production promises audiences a fresh perspective on the beloved story through local cultural elements.
The ambitious 14-episode series commands a substantial budget of NT$200 million (around US$6.8 million), showcasing Golden Bell Award-winning (金鐘獎) screenwriter Lin Tzu-ping (林子平) as director. Golden Bell cinematographer Li Ching-ti (李清廸) handles the visual elements while musician Chris Hou (侯志堅) composed the distinctive score. Chai conducted extensive year-long field research in Penghu with her team, ensuring Taiwanese actors deliver an authentically localized interpretation.
Ning Chang conveyed enthusiasm about reuniting with Vic Chou and director Lin Tzu-ping, characterizing their collaboration as both challenging and deeply rewarding. She expressed eager anticipation for developing her character's complexity and emotional depth. Vic Chou praised Lu Yi-ching's casting as his on-screen mother, describing her as the ideal choice for the demanding role while hinting at their characters' troubled familial dynamics.
The production combines star power with exceptional production values as "Our Blues" seeks to transform Taiwan's dramatic storytelling landscape. Viewers can expect compelling exploration of complex family relationships and distinctly Taiwanese cultural elements throughout the series. The adaptation represents a significant investment in local entertainment industry development and cross-cultural narrative adaptation. ◼
