TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Organizers postponed several key events at the Taiwan International Balloon Festival (台灣國際熱氣球嘉年華) to Aug. 4, prioritizing public safety as Typhoon Danas disrupted the festival's schedule. The festival opened on July 5 at Luye Highland (鹿野高台), drawing over 30,000 attendees who witnessed the debut of the world's only "Doraemon" (哆啦A夢) hot air balloon.
Taitung County Magistrate Yao Ching-ling (饒慶鈴) excitedly welcomed the morning with the unique "Doraemon" balloon. Visitors traveled from as far as Keelung to attend, with some sharing nostalgic connections to the beloved cartoon character. The weather initially cooperated, offering a clear morning for spectators to enjoy the balloons' vibrant display.
However, Typhoon Danas brought sudden weather changes in the afternoon, prompting the cancellation of several events, including concerts by Accusefive (告五人) and Claire Kuo (郭靜) and a fireworks show. Organizers emphasized that postponing these activities ensures public safety despite disappointment among many attendees.
As the festival continues, visitors can look forward to the rescheduled events in August, promising another opportunity to experience the full spectacle of the Taiwan International Balloon Festival.
