KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan's largest semiconductor packaging and testing firm, ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. (日月光投控), offered a measured but positive outlook for the remainder of 2025 on Wednesday (June 25), forecasting a 10 percent year-over-year revenue growth in its advanced packaging and testing operations. During the company's annual shareholder meeting held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan's southern industrial hub, Chief Operating Officer Tien Wu (吳田玉) emphasized the company's substantial financial commitment to cutting-edge large-size fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP) production facilities, a technology crucial for next-generation semiconductor devices.

The executive revealed that ASE has allocated US$200 million (approximately NT$5.88 billion) to its FOPLP production infrastructure, with installation of sophisticated machinery and equipment completed during the second quarter of 2025. The company anticipates beginning commercial shipments from these new production lines before year-end. Wu acknowledged the challenging global economic landscape but highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) as a powerful catalyst for continued semiconductor advancement and innovation. He pointed to escalating market demand for specialized AI processing chips as a significant growth driver for the industry despite broader economic uncertainties.

Looking toward the future, Wu projected the worldwide semiconductor industry could expand to a US$1 trillion market between 2032 and 2033, representing unprecedented growth for the sector. The company maintains its previously announced capital expenditure plans for 2025 without adjustments, signaling confidence despite market fluctuations. Corporate financial data presented at the meeting revealed that ASE's advanced packaging and testing operations generated more than US$600 million (approximately NT$17.65 billion) in revenue during 2024. These specialized services represented roughly 6 percent of the company's total packaging and testing business revenue, highlighting their growing importance to ASE's overall business strategy.

The ASE executive conveyed enthusiasm regarding Taiwan's emerging position in both artificial intelligence and robotics sectors. Wu envisioned a future technological landscape where robotic systems would play an increasingly central role across industries and daily life. He called upon Taiwan's technology ecosystem to intensify development efforts in sensor-related semiconductor components, identifying this specialized technology segment as strategically critical for maintaining the island's competitive advantage in global technology markets. This emphasis on sensors reflects their essential function in enabling advanced AI systems to perceive and interact with the physical world. ◼
