TAIPEI (TVBS News) — HTC (宏達電) announced plans to bolster its strategy in the XR ecosystem during its shareholders meeting on Friday (June 20). Chairwoman Cher Wang (王雪紅) emphasized the company's commitment to advancing its XR initiatives following a significant agreement with Google earlier this year.
HTC and Google signed a deal that involved Google paying US$250 million for some of HTC's XR research and development team to join Google. According to the agreement, HTC granted Google non-exclusive rights to use its XR intellectual property, a transaction completed in the first quarter. Lu Chia-te (盧佳德), HTC's chief legal officer, noted that despite licensing these rights to Google, HTC retains ownership and aims to strengthen the ecosystem.
Cher Wang highlighted HTC's pioneering role in global immersive entertainment, citing the "Eternal Notre Dame VR Exhibition" (永恆聖母院) as a testament to XR's commercial potential. HTC's VIVERSE platform, the world's first open 3D content platform, now supports mainstream game engines and incorporates no-code tools and AI to foster creativity.
As HTC stands at the cusp of a new era, the company remains focused on growth through openness, connectivity, and intelligence. With ongoing developments in its XR strategy, stakeholders and industry observers will keenly watch HTC's next moves to expand its influence in the XR space.
