TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 疾管署) reported on Thursday (May 29) a significant surge in COVID-19 vaccinations, with 38,115 individuals receiving shots from Monday to Wednesday, nearly doubling last week's figures. Daily vaccinations reached a 2025 high of 15,332 on Wednesday, reflecting the country's ongoing efforts to combat the rising COVID-19 cases.
The CDC has distributed 128,000 vaccine doses nationwide, ensuring a sufficient stockpile of 3.087 million doses. From May 18 to 24, outpatient and emergency visits for COVID-19 reached 41,402, surpassing both the previous week and the same period last year. CDC spokesperson Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) noted a 78% increase in visits from May 25 to 27 compared to last week, although the growth rate has slightly slowed. He estimated that visits might exceed 60,000 this week.
Officials emphasize that the reserves of vaccines and antiviral drugs remain adequate. They urge the public to adhere to preventive measures, such as vaccination, wearing masks, and frequent handwashing. The CDC encourages individuals to visit its official website for updated information on rapid test kit availability and vaccination sites.
