TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's premier drone industry consortium has forged strategic partnerships with two influential American organizations, marking a significant advancement in cross-Pacific aerospace cooperation. The Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunity Alliance (TEDIBOA, 台灣卓越無人機海外商機聯盟), a consortium of Taiwan's leading drone manufacturers, announced Monday (May 26) that it has signed formal agreements with the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Oklahoma Defense Industry Association (ODIA). These partnerships aim to strengthen Taiwan's position in the global drone supply chain.
TEDIBOA Chairman Hu Kai-hung (胡開宏) characterized the agreements as pivotal for Taiwan's technological advancement in the drone sector. This partnership represents a significant opportunity for technical integration with the United States, according to Hu who, emphasized how the collaboration would accelerate Taiwan's drone combat capabilities. The chairman recently led a delegation of Taiwanese drone manufacturers to the prestigious XPONENTIAL 2025 exhibition in Texas, where they showcased the island's rapidly expanding drone technology ecosystem and demonstrated its growing international competitiveness.
Raymond Greene (谷立言), director of the American Institute in Taiwan's Taipei Office (AIT) and the highest U.S. official in Taiwan, underscored the strategic importance of the partnership. Greene pointed to the already robust collaboration between American and Taiwanese entities in cutting-edge manufacturing sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and now unmanned aerial systems. The drone alliance's global outreach extends beyond North America; earlier this month, TEDIBOA representatives conducted a European mission to Estonia and Lithuania, exploring additional industrial partnerships and market opportunities in the Baltic region.
The significance of these partnerships is amplified by AUVSI's position as the world's preeminent organization for unmanned systems, with a membership spanning more than 60 countries and encompassing over 600 companies across the industry. This extensive network provides Taiwanese manufacturers with unprecedented access to global technological exchange and collaborative opportunities. Allyson Carson, executive director of ODIA, personally signed the agreement with Chairman Hu, a gesture that officials from both sides described as further cementing the increasingly important technological relationship between Taiwan and the United States. ◼
