TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A 5.9 magnitude earthquake rattled Taiwan's eastern coastline Monday (May 5) evening at 18:53 local time. The quake, originating 7 kilometers beneath the ocean, was felt widely, with Hualien experiencing the strongest tremors at an intensity of 4. Other regions, including Yilan, Taichung, and Taipei, reported lower intensities. The Central Weather Bureau reported the quake as part of its preliminary findings.
