TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) announced Tuesday (April 22) that his party will pursue a calculated strategy to achieve what he describes as the public's foremost desire: removing President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) from office. His declaration comes as political circles buzz with speculation about a possible no-confidence vote against the administration.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) recently proposed a no-confidence vote, but the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) has expressed reservations about this approach. The contrasting positions have fueled speculation about the proposal's viability. During the recent "Bring Democracy Back to Taiwan Opposition Leaders Summit" (在野領袖峰會), journalists repeatedly questioned both parties about their divergent stances on the no-confidence strategy.
Chu insisted that citizens are more interested in removing President Lai from office than ousting Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), who heads Taiwan's cabinet. "President Lai could simply appoint another premier if needed, but what the public truly demands is Lai's resignation," Chu stated. The KMT chairman pledged his party remains open to all constitutional avenues — including no-confidence votes or recall initiatives — to "demonstrate the will of the people." ★
