TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Northern Taiwan will experience a modest temperature dip Friday (April 18) as a cloud system from the South China Sea moves eastward across the island, meteorologists reported. While central and northern mountainous regions may face isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms, the rest of the island will continue to enjoy warm conditions with temperatures spanning from 17 to 35 degrees Celsius (62.6 to 95°F).
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) detailed the regional forecast on Facebook, noting that only northern Taiwan would experience cooling while other areas remain warm. His forecast specified temperatures ranging from 17-29 degrees Celsius (62.6-84.2°F) in the north, 20-32 degrees (68-89.6°F) in central regions, 21-35 degrees (69.8-95°F) in the south, and 18-32 degrees (64.4-89.6°F) in eastern Taiwan. Wu warned that increasing moisture could trigger sporadic rainfall in northern regions and fog formation in western Taiwan, Kinmen, and Matsu, two outlying islands near China's coast.
Wu characterized the current weather system as "weak" but noted it would influence Taiwan through Sunday. The meteorologist predicted improved conditions beginning Monday, with Tuesday potentially bringing the year's highest temperatures — reaching 35 degrees Celsius (95°F) across much of the island. His forecast warned of a stronger weather front approaching midweek that will deliver increased moisture and extended rainfall from Wednesday through Saturday. This system carries elevated risks of thunderstorms, powerful winds, and heavy downpours, prompting Wu to advise residents to prepare for potentially severe weather until conditions improve Sunday. ★
